COVID has changed the world, disrupted both domestic and overseas travel. So, we went to Norah Head!

Updated: Dec 13, 2021

COVID has really stuffed things up for many millions of people and businesses. Our plans to travel overseas are on hold, and even our interstate trips have been cancelled. Lockdowns have forced people (including us) to cancel vacations and stay at home. Not fun.

The NA Social Club had organised a trip to Norah Head for November, so we decided to get out of Sydney, take the van and attend.

Norah Head was once purely a holiday place, however today it's more residential than it was when first visited around 40 years ago. The beaches are the same, though with more modern facilities!

The Norah Head Holiday Park is reasonable, the facilities are OK and it is a short walk to Soldier's Bhe beach and the surf club.

We stayed there 5 nights. The weather was ok for the first day, but windy after that, so no awning was put down as a result. There was rain (on and off) for a couple of days and then sunshine with winds.

We spent a day driving up to Newcastle to explore the city as we have not been there in around 25 years. Much has changed. We stopped at Catherine Hill Bay on the way up, as we had heard about this new development and were curious.

The photos above show the different shades of blue from Norah head to Catherine Hill Bay to Newcastle. We really do have some stunning coastline!

Below is a wide-angle photo of Soldier's Beach at Norah Head. It is a pretty beach but it had many gutters and rips on this day. We walked down the stairs and strolled along the beach. Stephanie walked all the way to the far headland and back!

The trip was short, and Norah Head is not too exciting, but the trip did allow us to revisit some places we had not been to or seen in many years such as The Entrance, Budgewoi, Swansea, Newcastle and Toukley. It also gave us some pratice with the van, and we feel that we are getting more proficient!

We did manage to catch up with and old Variety Bash mate and his partner who now live in Norahville and we have not seen them in 6-7 years, so it was good to catch up!

We met new people at the Social Club gathering, and spent most evenings socialising with many of the members.

4 weeks after this trip, we will be taking the van up to Yamba for 8 nights. It will be a big drive in one day towing the van, but we plan to get an early start!
