Fiji - a quick trip to check out one of Australia's favourite holiday destinations.

Updated: Mar 18, 2021

Since Andrew had to go to Fiji for work, we decided to make a holiday of it!

We flew into Nadi and stayed at the Sofitel resort on Denarau Island.

Fiji is your typical tropical resort destination place and one can see why. If you like poolside service, beaches, tropical locations, good food and the like, then this place is for you.

However, the resorts do charge higher prices and staying and eating outside the resorts can drastiacally reduce the cost of your holiday.

The Sofitel is a very nice place to stay at and there is a shuttle that goes from all the resorts to Denarau Port where you will find shops, tourist kiosks, cafes, restaurants, takeaway food places etc. It, in our opinion, is a better place for a meal than just staying in the resort.

Our view was the first photo below on the left. Breakfast was served by the lagoon pool and the beach was directly out the front.

There are a heap of places to stay at and we visited another resort (bottom right) where we had lunch, hired towels and went for a swim. Don't ever think that you are stuck in the one place, as just about everyone shares their facilities.

We had a car and drove around exploring some of the island. Suva was one of the places we visited, but we did not think that it was as nice as Nadi. We also stopped at other little villages for a meal, snack or a drink. The people are extremely friendly.

On one of the days we took a 30 minute boat ride to Malamala Island for a day trip. For an extra $20, we got a private cabana with our own beach area and a phone so we could order food and drinks (cost was extra) and have them delivered to our cabana at a moment's notice! How could we say no to that?!

We swam directly in front of our cabana and ordered or cockatils and lunch etc. The scenery was spectacular, the water was warm, the weather perfect and the day was flawless. It was so good, that we did it again a couple of days later!

It is a special magical feeling to be on an island in the Pacific and have idyllic conditions.

It makes us feel that this is how life should be like all the time. Maybe, if we lived in such a place, it would not feel as special and we would start taking it for granted...... though we cannot imagine that ever happening!!!
