Patonga Beach CV Park and Norah Head

The New Age Caravan Social Club had it's Christmas gettogether in November, and as per last year, we attended the function. However, this time we also tacked on a quick trip to Patonga to see what it was like there. The beauty about Patonga is its close proximity to Sydney, and it being located on a picturesque spit of land, with Broken Bay on one side and Patonga Creek on the other.

We spent 5 days at Norah Head with the NA Social Club. This year was more social, as we knew more people thn last year.

being the Christmas event, everyone's vans were done up with Christmas decorations - including ours..

We spent the late afternoons and evenings with the social club people, with afternoon drinks and nibbles most evenings. The days were spent doing a bit of sight seeing, shopping, and catching up with friends that live locally.

Day one was spent catching up with such friends at the Norah Head Bowling Club. It was a 6 hour catch up. Needless to say, we missed afternoon drinks with the NA Social Club that evening!

We actually had rather good weather for all but one evening of the entire trip.

However, we discovered that the bad weather and huge seas that had occurred on and off over 2022 had destroyed the steps that lead down to two of the main beaches at NH. It also destroyed the driveway from the surf club down to the waters edge that is used to launch the jetski. To top it off, apparently the Council does not have the available funds to replace the damaged steps and driveway!

The local sights, such as the rock pool, look just as they did over 40 years ago!

It was interesting to see how the area around Norah Head had changed. Places like Toukley and Gorokan have grown substantially.

After 5 days, we packed up and moved down to Patonga Beach - approx 90 minutes south.

Patonga Beach CV Park is in a pretty area and very popular on school holidays and weekends. In fact, it gets packed, and people book many months in advance for such times.

Located between Broken Bay on one side and Patonga Creek on the other, it is a little oasis. We arrived at our site and setup the van. The creek was 30m away, and the beach around 150m to the other side.

Patonga is well serviced by Umina, which is a 6 min drive north, and has everything one would need. Patonga is also serviced by a ferry that connects it to Palm Beach.

Patonga Pub is a great venue with a gret view and good food and atmosphere.

We went for a walk on day 2 along the creek and arrived at the pub where we had lunch. The walk was nice and it was rather picturesque. After lunch, we walked back along the beach back to our caravan.

We met three other couples that had vans located either side and in front of us. They were very friendly and we joined them for dinner and trivia at the pub on night 3. It was a fun night chatting with them and when it came to trivia, we came third! They seemed quite happy with the result, as they have never placed before!

Some more photos appear below, which are just scenes from around the Patonga CV Park:

Patonga CV Park is actually only just over a 2 hour drive from home. As such, I am sure that we will go back in the not-too-distant-future, as it makes for a quick hassle-free getaway for a few days mid-week at short notice.
